Women Pirates, Award-Winning Writer James L. Nelson told his Story of Women Pirates on Sunday, February 10, 2019
Vas Prabhu director of education at the Farnsworth Art Museum, disussed Chinese art. Prabhu will chronicle China’s artistic accomplishments through a show of 10 works of art from the Bronze Age to the present day.
Dave Rockwell, member of a distinguished Cushing family, discussed his years studying Southwest American Indian culture and collecting examples of its art at the Cushing Public Library.
Program was presented by the Chewonki Foundation. Over 100 Cushing residents and their guests attended the free program.
Louis Sockalexis was the man who inspired the nickname for the Cleveland professional baseball team in 1897 and paved the way for other pioneer American Indian baseball players, like Jim Thorpe and Hall of Fame pitcher Charlie Bender.
On April 8, 2017, The Annual Easter Egg Hunt was held. Approximately 47 children attended with their parents/grandparents. Refreshments were served after the hunt.
On March 29, 2017, Leaps of Imagination Art Reception occurred. For the second year in a row the library hosted the CCS second grade reception for parents, teachers and guests. The artwork will be displayed until June.
On March 24,2017, Cushing Community School, Grade 4, visited. The students listened to several types of poetry and then were asked to write a poem. Their poems were adventurous.
On February 17, 2017, Cushing Community School, Grade 4, visited. The students listened to The Friendship Fairy, a book donated to the library by the India Phillips Foundation. The Foundation was created in 2012 in honor of 4-year-old India Phillips who died after a short illness.
On February 12, 2017, American Culture in the 20th Century: Gifts from Immigration, presentations and discussions led by Pat Farmer, David Farmer and Alan Magee.
On January 27, 2017, Cushing Community School, Grade 4, visited. The students listened to a short story, then the entire class participated in creating the story in a round robin format.
On January 15, 2017, Sheltering Millions: Refugee Architecture and Urbanism, presentations and discussions led by Judith Bing & Brooke Harrington.
